The Season of the Buffalo

I am filled with love, gratitude and a deep sense of purpose today.  There is so much goodness and love all around.  I notice a shimmer that betrays the beauty and perfect order beneath the veneer of the daily difficulties of life.  This is an unearned miracle - grace.

It is the autumnal equinox - days getting shorter now and earth in the Northern Hemisphere moves rhythmically  into diminishing light and cooler weather.  I have come to understand that all of life moves in these rhythms - life, death, gestation, resurrection.  And I am grateful to be in on what seems like a well kept secret - that there is nothing we can do to prevent these rhythms, to prevent life from unfolding as it will.  In fact, there is nothing we need to do - except bring ourselves to it with openness and willingness and maybe a prayer to feel connected to the truth -  that we are never alone with any of it.

A wonderful mentor has taught me that these are the days of the buffalo and that its spirit holds us steady in the face of uncertainty.  Buffalo stands in the west, in the autumn, in the waning of the light and gives us strength and steadiness to proceed when we’re not sure how.

I wish for each of you during this transitional time that you find your steadiness and connect with your own rhythm.  I wish you the grace of unearned miracles and the openness and willingness to allow them.

With love and blessings,

Heather
